Black Bean Brownies

September 22, 2015

I am here to advise you that waiting to tell your husband that he is eating brownies made from black beans after his bite – while highly entertaining – is not recommended.

You’re all welcome.

But then we both agreed if I hadn’t told him he wouldn’t have known the difference.

These black bean brownies were so good I was licking the batter as everything was coming together. The beans make the base of the brownies so creamy and the coffee brings out the rich cocoa flavor. Combine all ingredients, add any toppings you desire (try chocolate chips, nuts, or peanut butter ), and pop in the oven for 25 minutes and you’re done. And best of all, they taste just like the real deal!

Haha that is exactly what I do with my boyfriend, let him taste it before I tell him what is inside. I love that you added the coffee, it always makes for a richer chocolate taste. I’ve never gotten around to making black bean brownies but I am so tempted πŸ™‚

You should! And it’s always more fun to let them guess what’s in it πŸ™‚ beans are the last thing you’d expect!

I have a black bean brownie recipe meaning to try. I’ll have to after we finish the batch of cookies I made a couple of days ago. I will tell my husband about the beans after he tastes them, if he is grossed out, more for me! But I think he won’t care too much.
    I like your recipe too.

You’ll have to let me know how that recipe works!! It’s more fun to wait and see if they can guess what’s in it πŸ™‚ Tyler reached for a second helping!

I’ve always heard about people using black beans in baked goods, but I’ve never actually tried it. Maybe, instead of the black bean burgers I was going to make tomorrow, I will make brownies instead πŸ™‚ They look delicious!

Thank you!! You should, though black bean burgers sound pretty awesome, too:) I was a little wary the first time I made them but I’m totally convinced that they make great brownies! Who would have thought?

I just had to click on something that said “black bean brownies”. I love good quality dark chocolate, and I love black beans — I would never have thought of putting the two together!

It sounds like the weirdest combination! Crazy how it works so well together. It does make me wonder what other weird concoctions are out there, haha

Hi Jasmine! I’m making your brownies today! Sorry to bother you, I was wondering: it says “baking dish”, I was thinking the usual 8×8 or 9×9, but yours is rectangular and it doesn’t look as big as a 9×13… but I really can’t tell by the picture. (Sorry I am so annoying) And for the topping it says 1/4 chocolate chips and I am going with 1/4 the bag not a 1/4 cup! Lol! πŸ˜‰ And BTW you do not need to post this, but if you get this message any time soon it might prove helpful!

Hi Sadie!! I’m sorry I am just seeing this now! You are definitely not annoying. πŸ™‚ The container I used was a rectangular shape, but it was a lot smaller than a 9×13! I don’t have the exact measurements, but I a 9×9 would be perfect. I mainly used the one I did for the photo. I think for topping you really could put as many chocolate chips as you desired, so anywhere from 1/4 cup to 1/4 bag would be perfect, lol! I hope I’m not too late! Also, I added a “contact me” option on the top of my page that goes directly to my email so I should get that faster. I hope you had a great weekend!
