There’s a (Pink) Bun in the Oven!

April 10, 2017

Guess what, guys?!

Tyler and I are expecting a sweet baby girl!! We could not be MORE excited!!

We found out early in the year – a couple weeks before my 30th birthday. I started to get suspicious around my 3rd week when I started to feel queasy and really fatigued throughout the day (it’s also why there haven’t been many blog posts this year!), but I told myself it was too early to know.

I gave myself a week before I allowed myself to add a pregnancy test to our grocery list and went to the store, reminding myself not to get too excited or overthink anything. My mother-in-law was coming in town that weekend so I grabbed a few bottles of wine and some ingredients for dinner, and headed over to the pharmacy.

When I got to the pharmacy I grabbed a test that was in a locked, protective box and waited in line to have the pharmacist unlock it. I was next in line when someone got in line behind me and I turned around to face a guy from my work. I casually threw the pregnancy test box over my shoulder into my cart and turned to face him, trying to play it cool with a, “Ohhhh, heyyy Mike!”

Let me tell you: nothing makes you seem less cool than trying to play it cool when buying a pregnancy test.

Also, nothing will guarantee you getting a double take from the cashier than checking out with a pregnancy test and 3 bottles of wine.

Coming home and taking that test and watching those two pink lines appear had to be the longest minute of my life, and telling my husband and watching his eyes grow big and his smile bigger is a moment I never, ever want to forget. We stood there in disbelief and I took another test and we kept them both on the counter for a few days, occasionally one of us stopping to stare at them to make sure we hadn’t imagined it.

In just a moment our lives completely changed, and we couldn’t be more grateful than we are right now.

A few things about the past months:

How far along: Wrapping up my 16th week this week! With almost 4 months under her belt, she’s about 4-5 inches long and weighs about 3 ounces, or since all babies are compared to food, she’s about the size of a large avocado.

Currently feeling: Everything. All at once.

Current symptoms: See above.

What I’ve been craving: Chipotle, peanut butter sandwiches (I’ve had one every morning for 3 months!), fruits with chili powder, and random 10 pm ice cream cravings. (I’m not fully convinced these are cravings, but more of an excuse to finally live my life and eat ice cream straight from the tub in the middle of the night without shame. But let’s just call them cravings, okay?!)

Most excited about: I’m so excited about so many things – but I’m just so excited about one day meeting her. Some days I’ll find myself sitting in her unfinished nursery room, taking everything in and daydreaming about who she’ll be. I’ve started writing in a little journal to give her when she gets older so she’ll know exactly how often we thought, talked, and dreamed about her.

First baby purchase: We went to Harry Potter World in Universal Studios Orlando for my 30th birthday (and it was amaaaaazing!!) and I snagged a stuffed owl to put in her nursery!

Most grateful for: The gift of being able to conceive and experience pregnancy and morning sickness, my faith, my husband, our family and friends, and late night Baskin Robbins deliveries.

Congrats!!! You’re going to be SUCH an amazing Mom (and Tyler an amazing dad, too)!! And your brother? He’s going to be wrapped around her finger, too!! I definitely laughed at the attempt to be nonchalant about a pregnancy test (but why are they locked up? lol…) MEEP! I’m so excited for you guys… but Baskin Robbins delivers? Game changer.
