Chicken Tomatillo Soup

October 11, 2019

This morning I awoke to a temperature below 90 degrees and you can bet that I immediately pulled out my boots and scarves while running around the house lighting candles and drinking apple cider made with happy tears.  Fall has officially arrived in Texas.  With the cooler temperature comes a wave of seasonal fruits and vegetables – from squash and…

Chocolate Palmiers

June 5, 2019

I have been loving the incredible food documentaries and shows that have been coming out on Netflix in the past few years. From ‘Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat’ to ‘Chef’s Table’ with their stunning visual story-telling and cinematography, it’s easy to get drawn in even if you’re not a cook or a foodie. And while I’m not usually a fan of reality tv…

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

April 30, 2019

I’ve mentioned it before, but the ultimate compliment I can get on anything I bake is Tyler telling me that we shouldn’t keep it in the house anymore because neither of us can stop taking little bites of it throughout the day.  Today’s culprit: THIS chocolate chip banana bread.  I don’t bake nearly as often as I’d like (mainly because…

Our “Lighter” Chicken Tortilla Soup

January 1, 2019

Happy New Year! These 30-something parents of two under two spent our New Year’s Eve on the West Coast by celebrating with the Eastern Standard Time’s midnight ball drop, and we have zero regrets. 2019 is already looking good with a good night’s rest and a freshly brewed cup of coffee and we are ready to get cooking!  So, as it turns…

Gimme Some Oven’s Chocolate Chip Cookie

December 29, 2018

Today’s post is brought to you by: we’ve had too many cookies and it’s starting to show.  If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that we’ve made this chocolate chip recipe several times during the month of December (including last night). Half of the time I tell myself that baking a batch of these would be a nice gesture…

Our Favorite Chili and Cornbread Recipes

November 30, 2018

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.  Well, whoever “they” are must never have had a toddler with razor sharp hearing and a propensity for repeating four letter words. That’s right, darling Sofia, with her barely there pigtails and lavender fleece onesies, has added a particular four letter word to her wide vocabulary that includes “ball.” So parenting…

  • I saw a sign this morning that read: “The weather went from 90 to 55 like it saw a state trooper,” and truer words were never spoken. This chilly Texas temperature has us in the mood for @lisa_allen’s Chicken Tomatillo Soup, now featured in today’s post!
  • The beautiful French palmier cookie is light, crispy, buttery, flaky, and only slightly sweet, making it the perfect accompaniment to a steaming cup of tea. It’s also surprisingly easy - using only 5 simple ingredients. Check out the link in the bio for the recipe!
  • Still dreaming about this water-to-table platter of crab, mussels, clams, and shrimp, served over garlic noodles and buttered pan-seared fingerling potatoes. (Not pictured: the clam chowder and calamari that was already devoured!).
